For example, while technology has become more affordable (think of the supercomputers we now carry in our pockets), other essentials and luxuries\u2014like hotel rooms, sports tickets, or tuition\u2014have only grown more costly.<\/p>\n<p>This perspective challenges the belief that central banks can truly ensure steady prices, since millions of transactions and global trends shape what things cost. From my years in real estate, I know that a more predictable dollar could encourage people to invest in homes and communities, rather than focusing so much on inflation protection. That shift might compress many prices, but it would also push up the value of scarcer assets\u2014like the right home in the right neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, lasting price stability just doesn&#039;t exist, and changing prices often reflect progress and new opportunities in our economy rather than decline.
